Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Youth Literature Brigade (BJLA) brought together 300 young people, including writers and literature lovers, in Saurimo, Thursday, for a reflection on poetry in the region.
At the meeting, as part of World Poetry Day, which is celebrated today, writer Bula Mbungue said that poetry is fundamental because it allows authors to use all linguistic resources, to give shape and beauty to the word and contribute to changing people’s mentalities.
He defended the introduction of the literature course in primary education, so that children begin to enjoy poetry, prose and other genres from an early age.
For writer Tau Lunga Mana, poetry contributes to intellectual development.
For his part, the BJLA provincial delegate in Lunda-Sul, HeĢlio Sangula, stated that to celebrate the date, in addition to the round table, it is planned to hold a fair and a poetry recital.
World Poetry Day was implemented at the 30th General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in 1999.
This day aims to highlight the importance of poetry as an artistic manifestation common to all Humanity. Creativity, linguistic and cultural plurality are also celebrated and the teaching and reciting of poetry is promoted.
