Africa-Press – Angola. The Political Bureau (BP) of the MPLA expressed, this Monday, dismay at the death of nationalist Samba Pedro Bungaló, which occurred Saturday (12), in Luanda, due to illness.
In a note of condolences this Monday (12), the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the MPLA refers that “with his death, Angola loses yet another reference of its collective historical memory, a patriot who dedicated his best years of their lives in favor of the aspirations of the Nation and, with a firm purpose in the liberation and independence of the country”.
Likewise, “he bows before the memory of Samba Pedro Bungaló and sends heartfelt condolences to the family”.
Born in Nóqui, Nsanza village, Uige province, Samba Pedro Bungaló joined the MPLA in 1970, in Kinshasa (DRC) and participated in the armed struggle against the Portuguese colonial regime, as a guerrilla movement, in the 2nd Political Region -Military.
A retired brigadier, Samba Pedro Bungaló received his first military instructions at the Kalunga base, where he specialized in land artillery, in 1976, later joining the military contingent that attended the first course for officers at the Comandante Nicolau Gomes Speencer school.
His military training path culminated in 1978, in the former USSR, where he attended a higher course in land artillery.
Samba Pedro Bungaló performed several functions, with emphasis on that of assistant coordinator of the MPLA commission next to the National Political Directorate of FAPLA and head of the Sub-Commission for Security and Peacekeeping between the Republics of Angola and the former Zaire, current DRC.
In his political career, he was an effective member of the MPLA provincial committee in Uíge and, later, a member of the Provincial People’s Assembly.
His trajectory was also marked by several decorations, including the “Clandestine” Medals, “MPLA Guerrillas”, “November 11th First Class” and “September 17th”.
Zealously fulfilling the missions assigned to him, he was a respected man of arms, with a recognized sense of command and leadership, characteristics that underpinned his brilliant career.
