Africa-Press – Angola. The United Kingdom (UK) ambassador to Angola, Bharat Joshi, on Saturday in Malanje, announced the intention of a British company to set up a chicken production farm in the province, with a view to contributing to the diversification of the economy.

Without giving details, the diplomat stated that the company is exploring opportunities for the aforementioned investment, and that the Government of Malanje only has to accept the proposal, as well as to identify the location to set up a farm, among other requirements.

On the other hand, the ambassador reaffirmed his country’s interest in investing in the field of agriculture and especially tourism, including in the construction of accommodation infrastructures and the attraction of national and foreign tourists.

Bharat Joshi said that tourism is very important and we have a British company that is looking at opportunities to see how we can develop infrastructures to develop the sector in Angola and Malanje.

The ambassador also highlighted the scholarship program called “Chevening”, which the British embassy offers annually for the training of 14 Angolans in master’s courses in various areas, in the United Kingdom, whose official launch will take place in July this year in Malanje, and is expected to cover Provincial Government staff and students.

The British diplomat’s visit to Malanje, which lasted a few hours, saw investment opportunities and the integration of his country’s projects in the province, and resulted in a meeting with members of the government, chaired by the provincial vice-governor for the political, economic and social sector, Franco Mufinda.

At the time, Franco Mufinda called on the British Embassy to mobilise investors for the province, given the region’s tourism, water, energy and other potential, and highlighted rice production as a priority area, with rice growing on a larger scale in the municipality of Luquembo.

Regarding tourism, he said that the province has over 100 tourist attractions, which the Government intends to promote, which the UK’s interest corresponds to local expectations.

He announced that since last year, according to current data, at least 30,000 tourists have been arriving, a number that is still low given Malanje’s tourism potential, a situation that could be reversed with private investment. After visiting Malange, the ambassador’s delegation heads to the province of Lunda Sul.
