Africa-Press – Angola. A campaign to combat infanticide was launched this Tuesday by the Administration of the municipality of Caála, Huambo province, to prevent abandonment of newborns and prevent clandestine births in communities.
The campaign, with no end in sight, will consist of publicizing the risks of induced abortion and raising awareness among families to pay more attention to sexual education for adolescents and young people.
On the occasion, the administrator of the municipality of Caála, Rubén Isaías Etome, said that the initiative aims to unite the living forces of the municipality, between churches, traditional authorities, National Police, civil society organizations and the population, in general, with the aim of tighten the crackdown on infanticide crimes.
The official added that the campaign also aims to counter the trend of cases of newborns being abandoned in rubbish bins and drainage ditches, with three cases recorded in the Fernando Faustino Muteka centrality in the last 15 days.
