Caconda to Gain 788 New Power Connections in 2026

Africa-Press – Angola. The Caconda Municipal Administration, in the province of Huíla, will increase in 2026 the number of electricity connections to residences from 1,266 to 2,054, through investments in a new thermal power plant, transformer substations, and the repair of damaged equipment.

This involves the acquisition of a 500 KVA generator, within the framework of the “NJILA” Project for Strengthening Governance to Improve Service Delivery in Angola, which also includes the supply of lighting and other adjacent works, at a cost of 148 million kwanzas (USD 1 = 812 Kz).

According to the Caconda administrator, Castilho Cacumba, in statements, on Monday (5), this investment will allow for 500 new household connections.

He also highlighted that within the framework of NJILA, the municipality will acquire two transformers, with a budget of 80 million kwanzas, already made available by the program.

Regarding the generators under repair, the source stated that there are seven, with capacities ranging from 13 to 130 KVA, with the repair being undertaken by the Integrated Local Development and Poverty Reduction Program (PIDLCP), and they will provide 288 household connections.

He added that the administration also intends to invest in the application of photocells in public lighting and the implementation of the medium-voltage network to improve the quality and reliability of the service.

He reported that in 2025 the municipality registered “significant progress,” with the repair of three generators, which allowed for an increase in household connections from 598 to 1,266.

Investments in water guarantee 217 connections

Castilho Cacumba highlighted that in the water sector, the municipality currently has 165 household connections and for the current year, the projection, within the framework of the PIDLCP and the Ordinary Treasury Resources, is for 52 new connections in the four communes.

He detailed that the administration intends to proceed with the construction of 6 new supply systems, the restoration of the water supply on Lobito and Elias Luciano streets, in the municipal headquarters, and the recovery of the supply system powered by solar panels next to the town’s water intake.

The purpose, according to the administrator, is to reinforce the water supply in the town and its periphery, as well as the investment in the acquisition of two water tanker trucks for supplying water to peripheral areas and the construction and improvement of water wells in the villages.

The municipality of Caconda has an estimated population of 226,236 inhabitants, distributed across its four communes: the headquarter (Caconda), Gungue, Waba, and Cusse.
