Africa-Press – Angola. The coach of FC Bravos do Maquis, Mário Soares, considered group D, in which the National Football Team is included, to be favorable for qualifying for the African Nations Championship (CAN’2024), taking place from January 13th to 11th February, in Côte d’Ivoire.
To react to the draw, which places Angola in group D, with its counterparts from Algeria, Burkina Faso and Mauritania, he said that the national combination “was fortunate to be placed in Group D, which offers conditions for passage to another phase.”
According to the coach, Angola depends on itself to qualify for the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations, calling for the need to do advance work, taking advantage of the games on the remaining date, to consolidate the group.
“It is necessary to bring together synergy, in ways that both athletes and other actors have a spirit of responsibility and patriotism.”
He defended the need to create minimum conditions for the technical team and athletes to avoid “shocks” in preparation.
In terms of CAF Ranking, the Angolan team has the worst in group D, in the league table, positioning itself in 28th place, while the Algerians, two-time CAN champions (1990 and 2019) are the best placed in this group, being in fourth position, in a list of 50 teams led by Morocco.
The Burkina Faso team is ranked tenth best (2nd in group D) in the CAF Ranking, while Mauritania is in 21st place.
