Africa-Press – Angola. The National Canoeing Team will compete in the African Championship from the 21st to the 27th of this month, in Abuja (Nigeria) in search of qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games, in Paris, France.
Six athletes are part of the Angolan team for this “operation”, namely Manuel António and Benilson Sanda (canoeing), Jairo Domingos, Simão Camazaulo and Lucrécia Gomes (Kayak), in addition to paracanoe Avelino Almeida (for the disabled).
In this event, Angola will also compete with the pairs made up of Jairo Domingos and Simão Camazaulo and Benilson Sanda/Manuel António.
It will also feature a mixed duo (male/female), formed by Jairo Domingos and Lucrécia Gomes.
The event will qualify 12 boats from the African continent for Paris’2024, with the qualifying events being C1 500m and C2 1000m, K1 500 meters and K2 1000m, individual and double, respectively.
The canoeists’ call to the national team, led by César Fidalgo, is the result of positive results in tests carried out during training.
The last Angolan participation in the Olympic Games took place in 2012, in London, England, with Nelson Henriques and Fortunato Pacavira, while the “African” one took place in 2019, in Tunisia.
