Carnival 2023: APROCAL assumes responsibility for hosting the Carnival in Luanda

Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor of Luanda for the Political and Social Sector, Manuel Gonçalves, said, this Saturday, that the Luanda Provincial Carnival Association (APROCAL) will take over the production and organization of the Luanda Carnival.

The statements were made during the act of awarding the prizes to the winning groups of the three competitive classes of the 2023 Luanda Carnival.

The official underlined that Shrovetide must pass to civil society, with APROCAL assuming a central role, within the framework of a protocol signed in 2019.

Manuel Gonçalves said that the governor of Luanda, Manuel Homem, had already issued the order that creates the organizing committee for the 2024 Luanda Carnival.

“The creation of this commission is a message for the groups. We were awarded and we must know how to use the scarce financial resources. We are fully aware that it is neither sufficient nor proportionate”, he said.

In the coming months, advanced the vice-governor, the III Provincial Meeting of the Carnival of Luanda will be held, which will bring together all the makers, in order to find better ways for the greatest cultural manifestation of the Angolan people.

For the official, the main concern of the Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL) has to do with carnival groups, therefore, work is being done to provide social partners with conditions so that groups can prepare well in advance.

With regard to music, Manuel Gonçalves referred that the challenge for 2024 is to have it live in Luanda’s Nova Marginal, but it will only be possible if the groups present this predisposition.

As for the prizes, he said that he is working towards the year 2024, the monetary values of the prizes are more attractive, but the challenges will also be greater.

The Luanda Provincial Carnival Association (APROCAL) was created in 1999, with the aim of helping organize the “people’s party” in the capital, as well as serving as a link between the Ministry of Culture and carnival groups.
