Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, participated, at the invitation of the World Observatory of Political Women, in a virtual way, in a World Forum.

For about an hour, Carolina Cerqueira spoke about the role of Angolan women in winning independence, building peace, democratizing the country, reconciliation and national reconstruction, highlighting Queen NGinga Mbandi as the icon of combative and resilient example of women in Angola.

Carolina Cerqueira referred that the current female representation in Parliament, at all levels, and the rejuvenation of the presence of women is a recognition of the interest in the great national causes, of the responsibility and increased maturity of the young women who are determined, with great patriotism and professionalism, to dignify the mission given by the populations in the last election.

Regarding the agenda of the House of Laws, he highlighted, among others, the approval of the General State Budget, the Amnesty Law, the General Labor Law.

On the agenda, he said, there are others for approval, including debates with the coordination and active participation of women, in the phase of discussion in the specialty.

What stands out, as stated, is the sense of social responsibility, the defense of family, social, civic and moral values, as well as the commitment to improving the well-being and stability of families, in the interventions and agreement of the deputies.

Issues related to peace and peaceful coexistence, tolerance and comprehensive and constructive dialogue, characteristic of democratic and strong parliaments, were applauded by the President of the AN, who highlighted the fact that the Defense and Security Commission is chaired by a woman, one of the rare cases in Parliaments worldwide.

Questioned about the fight against domestic violence, Carolina Cerqueira informed that there is an active and active national movement of women politicians, social activists, liberal and religious professions, who do a great advocacy in defense of the rights of women and children, in denouncing and combat all forms of violence and violation of the rights of the most vulnerable populations.

He added that the parliamentarian is at the forefront of this fight, supported by a strong law against domestic violence, approved two decades ago and whose updating process, to aggravate some penalties, will be triggered during the 5th legislature.

Initiatives for a Parliament that is closer to citizens, more sensitive to gender, more digital and more ecological were other matters dealt with by the President of the National Assembly.

The World Observatory of Political Women based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a world platform that brings together women from all continents to encourage women’s political participation, exchange of knowledge, experiences and training in various fields to enable women to have voice and time in major global political decisions.
