Africa-Press – Angola. Seven hundred and 17 million dollars is the amount invoiced, in 2023, by Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, in the sale of six million and 600 thousand carats of diamonds, registering a reduction of USD 40 million compared to the previous year.
According to the company’s general director, Benedito Manuel, who provided the information to the press this Tuesday, the reduction is due to the drop in the price of carats on the international market.
The manager was speaking at the end of the 73rd assembly of the partners of this mining project, which recommended, among others, the modernization of its technological complex to contribute to the recovery of productivity.
According to the participants, the current complex is archaic, which has affected the productivity of the treatment plants, which is why it is urgent to pay special attention to the factory modernization program.
They defended the continuous implementation of programs aimed at improving the lives of communities and the environment, within the framework of their social responsibility.
On the other hand, they considered the company’s performance in the last year to be positive.
Located in the province of Lunda-Sul, Sociedade Mineira de Catoca has existed for 29 years and is responsible for more than 75% of the country’s diamond production, employing more than five thousand people, directly and indirectly.
