Africa-Press – Angola. The National Bank of Angola (BNA) is keeping in circulation the eight denominations of metal coins from the 2012 series, with denominations between 0.50 cents and 200 kwanzas.
The Central Bank stated that these coins, regardless of their denomination, continue to be legal in the country and should be accepted by all economic agents in commercial exchanges.
‘Under the terms of article 470 of the Penal Code, the rejection, without just cause, is punishable by a fine of between 30 and 180 days, so we call on all citizens, especially economic agents, to conduct themselves in strict compliance with the law,’ reads the note.
The 2012 series coins have denominations of 0.50 ; Kz 1.00, Kz 5.00, Kz 10.00,Kz 20.00; Kz 50.00; Kz 100.00 and Kz 200.00.
The BNA statement comes after reports of lower-value coins being rejected in commercial transactions on the informal market.
