Africa-Press – Angola. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has already invested just over USD 607 million in various social and economic projects in Angola, the institution’s vice-chairman, Ms Katsura Miyazaki, announced on Thursday in Luanda.
The official was speaking to the press after a meeting granted to her by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, JoseĢ de Lima Massano, with whom she discussed matters related to the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) to be held in Japan from 20 to 22 August this year.
The conference is to be hosted by Japan and co-organised with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union (AU) and the World Bank (WB).
According to Katsura Miyazaki, the agency is prepared to discuss areas in which it can strengthen cooperation in the future.
She added that the meeting aimed to learn about Angola’s various needs, including electricity and water, as well as the construction of infrastructure.
The official also stated that the agency has been cooperating for Angola’s development, with a focus on the health sector and economic diversification.
Katsura Miyazaki revealed that during the meeting she learned about Angola’s priority and expressed the desire to work towards expanding projects in the future.
The meeting also served to discuss the TICAD 9 conference, an African development event in Tokyo, since Angola is the chair of the African Union, one of the co-organizers of the aforementioned meeting.
TICAD aims to promote dialogue between African leaders and development partners, mobilize support for African development, and address challenges such as poverty, conflict and economic development.
The Japanese leader said that Japan wants to count on Angola’s presence at the international event and at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, a world exhibition event to be held in the Japanese city of Osaka.
