Africa-Press – Angola. he General Central of Independent and Free Unions of Angola (CGSILA) elected, this Wednesday, Augusto Baptista secretary of the organization in the province of Cunene, during the body’s 1st conference, 18 years later without local representation.
On that occasion, the elected secretary promised to comply with the organization’s statutes and work with the unions affiliated to the center to resolve workers’ common problems.
Augusto Baptista committed to monitoring private companies in the search for compliance with workers’ rights and advising workers on fulfilling their obligations.
The act was guided by the secretary for Administration, Staff and Training of CGSILA, Emiliano Shikonekeni, for whom the activity is of capital importance because it gave ownership to the managing body of the SGSILA-CS secretariat in Cunene, which had not been functioning since 2005.
He made it known that the body has a collective list of demands in its portfolio which contains several points, with emphasis on the increase in the minimum wage and other subsidies for outskirts of workers working in rural areas and the reduction of the Labor Income Tax (IRT) .
Emiliano Shikonekeni said that it is essential to adopt measures to face the current economic and financial situation that workers face.
The country has three trade unions, namely the National Union of Angolan Workers (UNTA-CS), General Central of Independent and Free Unions of Angola (CGSILA) and Força Sindical Angolana (FSA-CS).
