Africa-Press – Angola. Chess player Délcio Balanga from the Campo de Aviação group won Sunday, in this city, the “5 de Outubro” chess tournament, with 6 points.
Called the Radio Cup, the competition was promoted by the Provincial Chess Association (APX) in partnership with the management of the Provincial Broadcaster of Rádio Nacional de Angola, as part of the celebrations of the company’s 47th anniversary, celebrated last Thursday (5).
During the competition, athlete Délcio Balanga won six matches and suffered only one defeat and one draw.
The tournament had the participation of eight athletes and in the immediate places were chess players Ralph da Costa with 5.5 points and Adilson Rosário with 5 points, in second and third place, respectively.
The newcomer to the competition of this type, Lourenço Quissanga, was in red position without scoring, but considered his participation useful, as it served to assess his competitive level and prepare himself for the next endeavors.
The winner of the competition considered the competition difficult and close, depending on the level of competitiveness displayed by the players, and will therefore continue to work to correct the errors that led to the only defeat and draw they obtained.
The general secretary of the Provincial Chess Association, António Garcia praised the athletes’ dedication during the tournament, only lamenting the small number of participants.
He stated that initially more athletes were registered, but the issue of prizes was possibly the basis for the withdrawals, since there are still prizes in arrears and the prize for this tournament under the responsibility of Rádio Malanje is unknown.
The competition was played at a Blitz pace, everyone against everyone in one round and in addition to celebrating National Radio Day, it served to prepare the players for the 11 de Novembro tournament and for the National Team Championship that takes place in December, in the province from Uíge.
