Africa-Press – Angola. The athlete from the Amadores Ciclo de Luanda team, Euclides Chingui, won (Saturday) the first prologue stage of the II edition of the Volta a Angola on bicycles (absolute), with a time of 5 minutes and 50 seconds and 54 tenths .

In the race, starting in Casseque and ending in Nganguela, communes in the province of Huambo, Euclides got the yellow jersey, and will be number one in the second stage of 145 km, which starts on Sunday (8am) in the province of Huambo and ends in Benguela.

In second place, with a time of 5 minutes and 53 seconds and 16 tenths, was Hosana Gonçalves (Petro de Luanda), while the holder of the 2015 edition, Igor Silva, was relegated to third place, with a time of 5 minutes, 53 seconds and a tenth.

In the Under-23 category, the white jersey also went to Euclides Chingui (doing a double category), followed by Hosana Gonçalves (Petro de Luanda), with a time of 5’53.16, and Cristian Ramon (Amadores Ciclo de Luanda – ACL), with a time of 5’03.66.

In juniors and youth, Jorge Gonçalves, from the Pepino de Benguela school, was in first place with a time of 6’09.29, while Cristian Teixeira (Transechipeta) was in second place with a time of 6’09, 55. Aderito Pereira ( Petro de Luanda), with a time of 6’35.04, occupied first place.

In the elite category (24 to 40 years old), the first position went to Igor Silva (Jair Transporte), 5’55.01, followed by Bruno Araújo (Petro de Luanda), with 5’58.54, while Cruz Tutti ( Petro de Luanda), with a time of 6’10.11, was third.

114 athletes, both national and foreign, compete in the five km prologue, including four countries, namely São Tomé and Príncipe, Cape Verde, Zimbabwe and DRC, in addition to 14 national teams from six provinces (Luanda, Cabinda, Huíla, Benguela, Bengo and Huambo).

The first edition of this event, paying homage to the greatest icon of the sport in Angola, started in the province of Bié and ended in Huambo, on a 152-kilometer road route.
