Africa-Press – Angola. The National Electoral Commission (CNE) destroyed, this Friday, in Luanda, all material from the election held in August 2022, highlighting the minutes, voting ballots, among other objects.
the event took place at the “Nova Cimangola” fornalia, in the municipality of Cacuaco (Luanda).
Speaking to the Press, the president of the CNE, Manuel da Silva, said that the act aims to comply with the provisions of Electoral Law 36/11, of December 21st, which determines the destination to be given to electoral material, which was under the custody of the presidents of the Provincial Electoral Commissions.
According to the person responsible, the Law orders that the election material be destroyed within one year after the final publication of the results.
Accordingly, he added, because following the law and by deliberation of the Plenary of the National Electoral Commission, October 6th of this year was designated as the date to incinerate the material throughout the country and fully comply with the Law.
For the representative of the Humanist Party of Angola (PHA), José São Tomé, the task was carried out without any irregularity.
“We experienced the 2022 elections, they were transparent and we were able to verify the votes deserved both by those who won and by us, as we had two elements that make up the parliamentary seats”, he highlighted.
In turn, representing the MPLA provincial committee in Luanda, Africano Pedro, said that the exercise carried out is fundamental to what the recommendations of the electoral elections are.
“The MPLA is a party interested in transparency and fairness and in the good administration of the electoral process”, he concluded.
Electoral observers, representatives of political parties with parliamentary seats, among other entities, witnessed the act of incineration of electoral and obsolete material in the furnace at the Nova Cimangola factory.
The MPLA won the General Elections on August 24th in Angola with 51.17% of the votes against 43.95% for UNITA (opposition), according to the definitive results announced by the National Electoral Commission (CNE).
UNITA obtained 2,756,786 votes and won 90 seats in Parliament. The third most voted party was the PRS with 71,351 votes, which gives it the right to two deputies.
The FNLA and the PHA are the other two parties that also managed to elect two deputies each. CASA-CE, APN and P-JANGO did not elect any deputy.
