Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Bié, central Angola, has had a Community Surveillance Council since Wednesday, with the aim of ensuring social peace and well-being of the population, a body chaired by the local governor, Pereira Alfredo.

This council, presented in the city of Cuito, includes the vice-governors, administrators of the nine municipalities, some members of the Government, provincial delegates, traditional and religious authorities, as well as those responsible for residents’ committees and philanthropic associations.

The body was established by law 15/16 of 12 September (State Local Administration Law), but it lacked regulation for its effective functioning, which happened through Presidential Decree 36/24, of 26 January.

Thus, its bodies will intervene in public security and hold constituent meetings at provincial and municipal level.

Under the terms of the approved regulation, the body is responsible for issuing an opinion on issues linked to public and community security, pronouncing on levels of delinquency and crime, civil protection strategies in assisting families who are victims of calamities, natural disasters, violent crime or organized.

They also include levels of illegal immigration, proposals collected to prevent and combat the vandalization of public property, strategies for implementing police stations and posts, urbanization plans and spatial planning, as well as issuing periodic reports on the state of public security.

On the occasion, the governor of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, asked the entire population of this central/southern region of the country to actively participate in public security, as well as in actions to protect public assets made available to citizens.
