Africa-Press – Angola. Construction of the local component of the Kaminho project (Block 20/11) began Friday at the Petromar facilities in Ambriz, Bengo province, the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas announced.
In the presence of the supervising minister, Diamantino Azevedo, and representatives of TotalEnergies, ANPG, Sonangol, and local and traditional authorities, the first steel cut for the project’s FPSO took place, marking the beginning of the construction of the local components.
A press release states that start-up is scheduled for 2028, with a capacity of 70,000 barrels per day.
On the occasion, Diamantino Azevedo, quoted in the report, took the opportunity to congratulate TotalEnergies, highlighting that the company has been a key partner in the Angolan oil industry’s journey for many years.
He adds that TotalEnergies is helping economic growth and, most importantly, in the enhancement of human capital.
“The training and capacity building of Angolan technicians is an example of commitment and lasting partnership”, he stresses.
“The FPSO, whose construction began in March this year in China, will be a key player in the oil production of the aforementioned block, in the Cuanza Sea Basin”, reads the document.
An FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) is a floating vessel that produces, stores, and transfers oil and gas from a deepwater offshore exploration field.
The moment, he concludes, symbolizes the advancement of national engineering and the commitment to local content in the Angolan oil sector.
Valued at US$6 billion, the “Kaminho” project in block 20/11 is the result of the signing of an agreement signed between the National Oil and Gas Agency (ANPG), TotalEnergies, Sonangol and Petronas.
