According to the diplomat, the largest number of tourist visas issued by Brazil are granted here in Angola. “Our largest consular income in the world comes from this country”, she stressed.
Eugénia Barthelmess added that, in addition to tourist visas, student and work visas are also issued.Due to the high volume of requests, the Brazilian Government decided to open an autonomous Consulate General in Luanda, recently separated from the Embassy, to deal exclusively with consular and immigration issues. “Brazil seeks to meet the high demand, and this new consulate will allow for more efficient service”, explained Eugénia Barthelmess.
Bilateral relations and historical ties with Angola
Speaking to the press, the ambassador stressed that Angola is a strategic partner of Brazil, both politically and commercially, and that the two countries maintain a relationship of “great mutual trust”.
In the meeting with the vice-president of the MPLA, Eugénia Barthelmess praised the female presence in Angolan political leadership.
“The wise and far-sighted way in which Mara Quiosa leads the party is an inspiration to me, as a woman. Seeing a female figure in such a prestigious position at the head of a historic party like the MPLA is motivating”, she declared. The diplomat also recalled that Brazil was the first country to recognize Angola’s independence, in 1975, and has since established a strong relationship with the MPLA. “This relationship remains alive, deep and dynamic to this day,” she concluded.
