Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António on Friday participated in the XVII Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), called to analyze the recent events that occurred in Guinea-Bissau.
According to a Mirex press release , during the videoconference meeting the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Relations of the Member States carried out an in-depth assessment of the political situation in Guinea Bissau, reiterating the CPLP’s commitment to defending legality, institutional stability and the primacy of the Democratic Rule of Law.
The Ministers firmly condemned the constitutional reversal seen in Guinea-Bissau, stressing that any disruption of the democratic order is incompatible with the founding principles of the CPLP.
Participants demanded the immediate release of political prisoners and called for the urgent restoration of democratic order, through mechanisms that guarantee respect for the Constitution and the normal functioning of institutions.
In his speech, Minister Téte António reaffirmed Angola’s total solidarity with the Guinean people and highlighted the importance of inclusive political dialogue, preventive diplomacy and coordinated action by Member States to restore stability.
The meeting concluded with the CPLP expressing its willingness to closely monitor the evolution of the situation and support initiatives that promote peace, the regular functioning of institutions and the consolidation of democracy in Guinea-Bissau.
The XVII Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the CPLP was chaired by the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Ilza Amado Vaz, and brought together the heads of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Relations of the Member States of the Community.
