Africa-Press – Angola. Justino Camota, the second secretary of the ruling MPLA in Huambo province, called on Saturday for deep and exhaustive reflection on the party’s historical trajectory and the preservation of its achievements over the past 69 years.
The politician made the statement at a provincial event held ahead of the MPLA’s 69th anniversary on December 10. The event’s motto was “MPLA: Preserve and Value Achievements, Build a Better Future.”
Camota highlighted the decisive role of Angolan heroes, primarily MPLA members, who contributed to the liberation of the country, the consolidation of peace, and the strengthening of national unity.
He stated that the peace achieved on April 4, 2002, reunited previously separated families and created a solid foundation for national reconstruction.
Camota also recognized the efforts of the government led by President João Lourenço, in implementing public policies aimed at improving the quality of life of Angolans.
Cultural performances by Zé da Vunda, Florêncio Handanga, Bela Esanju, and Os Picantes enlivened the event, adding color and dynamism to the commemorative atmosphere.
During the event, three-wheeled motorcycles and fertilizers were given to local farmers to encourage youth entrepreneurship and support agricultural production and strengthen the family economy.
The political party was founded on December 10, 1956, by Angolan patriots who launched a manifesto for the union of several organizations, including the Party of the United Struggle of Angola (PLUA), the Movement for the Independence of Angola (MIA), the Movement for the National Independence of Angola (MINA), and others. These organizations merged to form the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA).
After forming this union, the MPLA assumed leadership of the struggle against Portuguese colonialism and proclaimed national independence on November 11, 1975.
