CPLP Ministers Meet in New York on Diplomatic Positions

Africa-Press – Angola. The Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) held an informal meeting in New York on Wednesday to agree on diplomatic positions and address strategic issues related to the Portuguese-speaking world.

At the meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Affairs, held as part of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Angola was represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.

In 2024, the rotating presidency of the CPLP, which was held by São Tomé and Príncipe, decided to upgrade the format of this meeting, proposing an informal summit of Heads of State and Government of the organization’s member countries during the week of the UN high-level debate.

At that point, several topics were identified as potential topics for the agenda or motivations for the meeting, such as a review of the presidency’s year, an analysis of the most recent political and diplomatic developments in member states, and the alignment of positions in multilateral forums.

Cultural and linguistic issues, a discussion of the value of Portuguese and its global relevance, and even the possibility of making Portuguese an official language of the UN were also discussed.
