Africa-Press – Angola. About 90 percent of the diamonds produced in Angola are already traceable, a technological process that makes it possible to verify the origin, processing and transfer of ownership of the mineral to the final consumer.

According to Ady Van-Dúnem, Director of Studies and Technological Projects at Endiama, who was speaking to journalists on Thursday, the traceability process aims to ensure compliance with ethical and legal guidelines, making counterfeits more difficult to introduce into the supply chain.

He also said that the implementation of the traceability process in the diamond subsector has allowed greater openness and transparency in the Angolan diamond industry and has attracted the interest of the largest consumers in the global market, such as the United States of America.

Furthermore, he said that Angola has made progress in technological solutions in the mining sector, at all stages of the production chain, from geology to mining operations and processing. He highlighted that in terms of earthmoving equipment, Angola already uses technology that allows it to attack critical ore blocks without putting the lives of operators at risk.

He said a project to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy is under study, through the implementation of photovoltaic parks in mines, to reduce fuel costs.

Since Wednesday, 19 mining companies have been meeting in the province of Lunda-Norte to assess the current state of the mining industry and outline strategies to mitigate the drop in diamond prices on the global market.

In the first half of this year, the sale of 10.6 million carats of rough diamonds generated revenue of US$1.1 billion, compared to US$608.84 million in the same period in 2024.

The main destinations were the United States of America, the United Arab Emirates, China, and India.

The goal for this year is to produce more than 14 million carats and exceed US$1.5 billion in revenue.

Currently, ENDIAMA controls 54 projects under exploration and restructuring and 25 mining companies in operation.
