Africa-Press – Angola. Representatives of the Member States of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) are meeting, in the municipality of Catumbela (Benguela), to define strategies to combat child labour.
According to the spokesperson for the event, David Kingjica, this is the fifteenth meeting of CPLP Ministers of Labor, which is being held for the first time in Benguela province, for three days to address issues such as child labor and multilateral social security convention.
The latter opens up the possibility for Angolans working in Portugal to be able to export currency or receive retirement pensions in Angola, as well as Portuguese or expatriates of other CPLP nationalities working in Angola to be able to do the same.
He also said that there will be discussions on the action plan on labor inspection matters, which could be adopted by the member countries.
“Angola, in this regard, is ratifying international conventions with the International Labor Organization (ILO)”, he informed.
At the opening of the ceremony, the director of the CPLP executive secretariat, Manuel Lapão, thanked the preparatory work that allowed consolidating a relevant agenda for the community.
He stated that the CPLP has sought to align its agenda with the major global challenges, as a result of the evolution in the fight against child labour, the elimination of forced labour, labor inspection, social security, health and safety.
“We believe that we are facing very relevant facts for the future of the CPLP, which meet those who are in a situation of greater vulnerability and contribute to inequalities in our community”, considered Manuel Lapão.
The executive director believes that, through this shared space, coordination between member states and the international community can begin with regard to methods associated with global governance, public policy, labor and social affairs.
On the last day of the event, the CPLP labor ministers for the ratification of the agreements, the ILO governance director, Vera Perdição, the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, and the governor of the province of Benguela, Luís Nunes.
Angola is preparing to receive testimony from Cape Verde to address matters relating to work and social matters at the organization level, at the end of this meeting, according to information from the organization.
The Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries comprises Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Portugal, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor.
