Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (MIREX), Domingos Viera Lopes, stated in Luanda that the ratification of the revised statutes of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) represents a strategic step for Angola, bringing political, economic, and institutional advantages to the country.
Addressing the 3rd Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the National Assembly, which approved a Draft Resolution approving the ratification of the CPLP’s statutes , the official said the revision of the statutes reinforces Angola’s leadership and initiative role within the organization, since the country was the proponent of the changes now enshrined and participates directly in defining the new strategic agenda of the CPLP.
Domingos Viera Lopes highlighted the formal consolidation of the economic aspect of the CPLP, aligned with Angola’s commitment to the integrated and sustainable development of the Lusophone space.
This economic dimension, now strengthened, he said, should stimulate the creation of new opportunities within the community, boosting the Portuguese-speaking economic space.
The official also pointed out that the revisions introduce greater institutional coherence, ensured by updating the normative references and promoting equitable representation, including gender equality in the organization’s executive bodies.
Ratification will also allow Angola to maintain an active role in defining the CPLP agenda and in coordinating between member states, reinforcing the country’s image as a state committed to multilateral cooperation, sustainable development and the promotion of the Portuguese language.
