Africa-Press – Angola. The head of the Cultural Action Department in Cunene province, Adérito Armando, this Tuesday in Ondjiva encouraged carnival groups to be guided by creativity in the interpretation of songs and dances in the 2023 Carnival edition.
The official was speaking to press, regarding the creation of the conditions and preparation of the carnival groups that will participate in the biggest cultural event that takes place in the second half of next February.
He said it was necessary for the groups to select themes that expressed the good values of society and feelings of joy for the rescue of the cultural identity that each people represents.
Adérito Armando also asked the groups to intensify the preparation in the municipalities and neighbourhoods, to be more competitive and in time to compete for the first three places, in the categories of adults and children.
“We have already received the term of reference from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for carrying out the Carnival, we are only waiting for the meeting with the local government to define the dispute modalities this year.
In terms of support, he explained that the groups have received from the provincial government an equal amount for the purchase of the necessary material for the initial phase of preparation of Entrudo.
He informed that the dispute will be of a competitive nature, unlike the previous year in which a symbolic parade was held, behind closed doors, with four groups from the adult category, due to the restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Adérito Armando recalled that at the time the groups Benta Ngo, Symbol of Peace, Red Group and Vatekolo vo Hamba participated, where he received a prize of 250 thousand Kwanzas, to help with the costs of preparation.
The 2021 Carnival, in which 11 groups participated, was won by the Red Group, from the municipality of Cuanhama, in the Adult Class, while Candengues da Paz, from Ombadja, triumphed in the Children’s category.
