Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Cunene will invest, this year, in increasing revenue collection and control actions for goods transiting the border between Angola and Namibia, the management of the Sixth Tax Region announced Friday.
According to the director of the Tax Region, Hélio Nzage, the objective is to boost revenue collection, control the import and export of goods and cross-border crimes, with particular emphasis on the smuggling of vehicles and fuel.
The person in charge at the inauguration of the new head of the Santa Clara Customs Delegation, Hortênsio Yembe, and the heads of the Technical Tax Department, Hermenegildo Bumba and the Tax Services department, Benjamim Dumba.
He said that despite not reaching the levels of other cross-border provinces in the north and east of the country, the situation of fuel smuggling in recent times has taken on “worrying” contours, a fact that requires redoubled action to reduce it.
Hélio Nzage highlighted the need to implement another inspection dynamic at the Santa Clara and Xangongo stations, which constitute the points through which most goods transit from Namibia to the rest of the country.
For his part, the new delegate, Hortênsio Yembe, said that the goal is to increase revenue collection levels by at least 10 percent.
To this end, he said it is essential to reinforce actions to combat smuggling of goods due to the vulnerability of the border, in joint and interconnected action between the bodies that operate in border security and in raising awareness among the population.
Hortênsio Yembe, who was head of the Luau Customs Delegation and the Technical section of the Seventh Tax Region that corresponds to the provinces of Lundas and Moxico, replaces Jorge Frank Nepembe, who has held the position since January 2022.
The Sixth Region of the General Tax Administration (AGT) covers the provinces of Cunene and Cuando Cubango.
