Africa-Press – Angola. Eighteen athletes in different categories, from the province of Cunene, are participating for the first time in the national Jiu-Jitsu championship, taking place from the 22nd to the 25th of June, in Huíla.
The athletes qualified for the Jiu-Jitsu nationals participated in the two-day provincial tournament, which took place in the multipurpose pavilion of Naipalala, in Ondjiva, with the involvement of 39 competitors.
Among the qualifiers stand out Filipe Ernesto and Abrahão Paulino (35 kg), Adriano Morais, Cristiano Kekiadiako (45 kg), Judith Kainha and B0enjamim (55 kg), Euzebio Twafeni, Tomas Carlos (65 kg), Munongo Paco and Aguinaldo Mikaela (70kg), as well as Eurico Chipeta and Joel Lazaro.
The information was provided, Tuesday, by the technical director of the Provincial Association of Jiu-Jitsu in Cunene, José António, on the sidelines of the closure of the said tournament.
He explained that in each category there were three athletes, from the first to the third classified, who completed the 18 that will form a selection to represent Cunene, in the province of Huíla.
“We are going to reinforce the preparation of the athletes, since it is a national competition, with the aim of Cunene asserting itself among the best in other provinces”, he said.
José António said that within the scope of the massification of Jiu-Jitsu in the province, in the six months that the association has existed, centers have already been created in the municipalities of Cuanhama, Cuvelai and Namacunde.
The Jiu-Jitsu Provincial Association in Cunene province controls 207 athletes.
