Cunene reinforced with new lawyers

Africa-Press – Angola. Thirty-one new lawyers received, this Monday, in Ondjiva, in the province of Cunene, their professional certificates to practice their profession, in defense of the interests of constituents.

Among the lawyers, nine are seniors and 22 interns, who will have the mission of contributing to raising the awareness and legal culture of citizens, in the municipalities of Cuanhama, Cahama, Namacunde, Curoca and Cuvelai.

When handing over the ballots, the provincial delegate of the Cunene Bar Association, Esmeralda Mbuta, said that the 31 new lawyers join the 75 old professionals.

“With the institutionalization in 2016 of the Cunene delegation, at the time with six lawyers, the number has grown significantly, which makes it easier to monitor legal aid processes,” he said.

He informed that the lawyer, in his work, must master the Constitution of the Republic of Angola (CRA), the Law on Advocacy, Statutes, Regulations and the Code of Ethics and Professional Deontology of the OAA.

He recalled that these are the instruments that establish the main lines of action that guide the practice of law without restrictions of any kind.

He asked interns to always be with the justice administration bodies to complete the preparatory instruction phase to prevent agents linked to the body where the proceedings are taking place from being appointed as defenders of the accused.

He made it known that citizens who do not have the financial capacity to hire a lawyer, but who need one to guarantee their fundamental rights, can request their defense from the OAA, whose lawyer is appointed through a lottery.

Esmeralda Mbuta said that this lawyer has the obligation, under the terms of the Statutes and the Code of Ethics of that institution, to carry out the effective defense of the citizen in question.

The Delegation of the Angolan Bar Association in Cunene has 106 professionals, 57 interns and 49 seniors to serve in the various municipalities.
