Africa-Press – Angola. Individual customers and companies owe 1.4 billion kwanzas to the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE) in Moxico, which conditions the operation of the institution.
The director of ENDE, Arnaldo Carlos, said this Tuesday, in the city of Luena, that the debt dates back to March 2019, and that the company needs to hire 25 more technicians to join the existing 75, to meet demand, but faces financial difficulties.
“With that debt, we were unable to hire more technicians to face the challenges, to update our car fleet. Therefore, we feel limited, since the distribution center in Moxico is a cost department”, he lamented.
He stated that to counteract the situation, ENDE has carried out awareness campaigns and massive collection of customers, calling for the payment of invoices, being
Arnaldo Carlos also complained about the vandalism of electrical infrastructures, which “makes it difficult for the ENDE to operate”.
Regarding distribution capacity, he said that ENDE in Moxico has an availability of 25 megawatts (MW) and needs another 22 megawatts.
The Luena Thermal Power Station has an installed capacity of 20 MW and the Tchihumbwe dam 12.42 MW, but both are producing below their installed powers, 15 and six (6), respectively), due to technical problems.
With over 22,000 controlled customers, ENDE, according to Arnaldo Carlos, intends to extend its services to peripheral areas this year.
