Africa-Press – Angola. A photovoltaic station, with a capacity to produce 10 kilowatts and a public lighting system, was inaugurated this Wednesday in the municipality of Cuvelai, southern Cunene province.
The station, powered by 32 solar panels, is part of the social object of the Chinese company Sinohydro and will supply the consumption of the Rei-Kauvi school, with seven classrooms.
The public lighting network, with 72 poles and respective luminaires, is also powered by the solar system, interconnecting the Hoji-ya-Henda and Deleme II neighborhoods, in a 1.5 kilometer long route.
On the occasion, the vice-president of Sinoyhidro in Angola, Jack Den, said that the donation of the public lighting project and photovoltaic plant aims to create a more convenient environment for the local populations to circulate.
According to the person in charge, the intention is to contribute to the improvement of the image of the seat of the municipality and to the development of education.
The municipal administrator of Cuvelai, Germano Nambalo, expressed the gratitude of the company Sinohydro which spared no effort to minimize the problem of electricity in the locality.
He said that the donation will help not only daytime students, but also those of the night period, who faced several interruptions in classes due to lack of electricity.
“With the placement of the poles, it will not only help to reduce crime, but will facilitate the mobility of students and citizens”, he emphasized.
For the vice-governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, António Matias, the act represents an added value of the public/private partnership.
António Matias asked the beneficiaries to take care of and conserve this equipment, preventing acts of vandalism from occurring.
For his part, the Secretary of State for Water, Manuel Quintino, said that the inauguration of the energy system is a sign of corporate social responsibility by the company responsible for building lots 4, 5 and 6.
With a population of 57,398 inhabitants, the municipality of Cuvelai is administratively divided into the municipalities of Mukolongodjo, Cubati, Mupa and Calonga.
