Africa-Press – Angola. Commemorative activities in favor of the 4th of April, Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, across the country and in various parts of the world, marked the political news over the last seven days.
The anniversary marked 22 years, since on April 4, 2002, military leaders of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and the former UNITA forces (FALA) initialed the Luena Memorandum of Understanding, complementary to the Lusaka Agreements, putting an end to 27 years of conflict.
On the occasion of the date, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, highlighted, in a statement, that the normalization of the functioning of republican institutions has allowed the strengthening of the foundations of the Democratic Rule of Law.
He also mentioned that this situation guarantees unity and ensures the defense of national sovereignty, as well as 22 years after the end of the war that mourned and tore apart the Angolan nation, today we live in a very different reality.
Registration also for the inauguration, in Luanda, by the Head of State, of the first phase of the Main Military Hospital/Higher Institute, equipped with modern technology to provide specialized assistance to personnel and their families.
The health unit has a capacity for 160 beds and was built in 33 months, and has an observation room, emergency room, imaging, laboratory, ultrasound and will support the training of military health professionals.
On the occasion, João Lourenço highlighted that the health sector will always be a priority, and investments will continue in all sectors, from primary to tertiary, despite the ongoing struggle to obtain financial resources to carry out important projects.
On the other hand, the Minister of State and Head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Pereira Furtado, who presided, in Huambo, at the central event of the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, considered that the social and economic consequences of 22 years of peace.
Representing the President of the Republic, he said that on an economic level, throughout this period, there was the reconstruction and construction of various social and economic infrastructures, which serve as support for the structuring sectors of the economy, with emphasis on agriculture, industry, commerce and services.
Regarding the President of the Republic’s weekly agenda, two personalities highlighted the hearings, namely the president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Kate Forbes, and the director general of the International Department of the French Business Associations, Jean François Burreau.
It is also worth highlighting the meeting, at the presidential palace, with Angolan staff residing in the diaspora, where he announced the completion, later this year, of the “Ndue” Project channel and the completion of the Calucuve Project in 2025, both in Cunene.
He highlighted that the two canals will be larger than the Cafu canal, which is more than 160 kilometers long, and will contribute to meeting a large part of the needs of the province of Cunene, in terms of access to water.
Also noteworthy is the inauguration of the ministers of Tourism, Márcio de Jesus Lopes Daniel, and of Culture, Filipe Silvino de Pina Zau, as well as the secretaries of State for Tourism, Hélder Jonas Leonardo Marcelino, and for Culture, Maria of the Piety of Jesus.
Note also for the patenting of two lieutenant generals to the military rank of general and sworn in as chief of the Deputy General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), namely José Maria Marques, for the position of chief of the Deputy General Staff of the FAA for Patriotic Education, and Jaime Manuel Pombo Vilinga, for the position of chief of the FAA’s Deputy General Staff for the Operational and Development Area.
The acts were led by the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces, in a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, in Luanda.
Highlight, for the appointment of Marinela da Conceição Mangueira Olavo Gambôa Laureano to the position of secretary of the President of the Republic for Social Affairs who replaces Maria de Fátima Republican de Lima Viegas in the position.
In another decree, the President of the Republic dismissed Evaristo José Solano from the position of Secretary of State for Justice and appointed Osvaldo Benza Amaro as a replacement, as well as Fernando da Paixão André Manuel to the position of Secretary of State for Local Authorities.
Reference also to the II Extraordinary Session of the Council of Ministers that assessed, for sending to the National Assembly, the Execution Report of the General State Budget (OGE) for the IV Quarter of 2023.
According to the final communiqué of the meeting, the OGE 2023 was approved with the average Brent quotation price of USD 75 per barrel and the forecast of a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate of 3.3%, supported simultaneously due to the growth of the oil sectors by 2.98% and non-oil sectors by 3.4%.
The Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, João Ernesto dos Santos said that they are working on the development of projects for the construction of historical military monuments that contribute to an ever greater appreciation and respect for the heroes of the country..
The governor made this statement, in Luanda, on the sidelines of the provincial event commemorating 22 years of effective peace, after raising the monument flag and laying a wreath at the monument of the unknown soldier.
