Africa-Press – Angola. At least 175.5 kilometers of the Lubango-Caconda route, Huíla province, have already been demined, as part of the implementation of the 400 kV energy transmission line, coming from the Belém do Dango substation, in Huambo to Lubango.
The “Belém do Dango – Lubango” High Voltage Line project has a length of 343 kilometers, 60 in width, whose transit capacity is 2271 MVA at the thermal limit of the conductor cables, it will connect the Belém do Dango substation to Lubango.
The work that began on November 9th will continue until the end of April of the current year and during the route, Lubango-Caconda, has already been completed and 12 unexploded explosive devices of different calibers and 89 ammunition were collected.
Regarding the matter, the head of the provincial department of the National Demining Center (CND) of Huíla, Tomás Calundungo, declared that the work on the section was not only on the road, but in surrounding locations.
As a result of awareness-raising work during the action on the Lubango-Caconda route, he said that 20 detonated devices of different calibers had been collected in locations surrounding the route.
According to the source, internal quality control and verification are underway at the Nombungo electrical substation, in Arimba, where an expansion is being carried out to ensure greater safety for machines that are operating in the area.
“Right now the machine is carrying out the processing work for the substation and as soon as it is finished, they will hand over the work to the contractor, possibly at the end of April”, he stated.
He highlighted that during the period, they faced constraints caused by the relief of certain areas of the municipality of Cacula, as well as the rains that slowed down the work a little.
27 local technicians and three from Huambo are involved in the process, with a request for another machine from Benguela and four more technicians in the works, to speed up the work.
The 400 kV Belém do Dango-Lubango line, between the Belém do Dango and Lubango substations, is part of a wider program of projects designed to essentially ensure transport to the North, Center and South areas of Angola for the production of Laúca Hydroelectric Power Station.
The line after Lubango goes to the provinces of Cunene and Namibe.
