Africa-Press – Angola. Five deputies from the fourth Committee of the National Assembly have been, since this Monday, in the province of Benguela, where for six days they will monitor the current status and operation of economic and social enterprises.
According to the leader of the delegation, Paulo de Carvalho, the group will be divided into two, the first of which will work in the cities of Benguela, Catumbela and Lobito, while the other will go to Cubal and Ganda.
“We want to visit health care centers, schools, higher education institutions, the Cavaco Penitentiary and get in touch, not only with the users of these services, but also with ordinary citizens who contribute to the economic development of this province”, explained the deputy.
Regarding the reason for the visit, he said that they have an obligation to travel to the provinces and municipalities. “This month we are in Benguela and there are colleagues who are going to the provinces of Moxico and Cabinda next week”, he added.
“By the end of this parliamentary term we will cover six more provinces, to try to complete fourteen, if the financial resources are available”, he clarified.
At the time, the deputy was approached about local authorities, responding that “there is still a lot of work to be done”.
“The National Assembly is a body that approves legislation and there are still some to do so. Only after that will it be up to the Government to create the bodies of local power,” he said.
Until then, according to the deputy, the administrations will continue to function and “they must fully fulfill their role, which is to satisfy the desires and expectations of citizens”.
Paulo de Carvalho acknowledged some deficiencies in the process and said that it is the Commission’s responsibility to detect insufficiencies and present suggestions to overcome them.
In addition to a meeting with resident deputies, namely Deolinda Valiangula and Mona Cachiangue, they had a courtesy meeting with the provincial governor, Luís Nunes, and meetings with deputy governors and municipal administrators.
The Fourth Committee of the National Assembly is responsible for the administration of the State and Local Government. It is responsible for monitoring and supervising the activities of Provincial Governments and municipalities in the country.
