Deputies promise advocacy for completion of Home for the Elderly

Africa-Press – Angola. The deputies of the 8th committee of the National Assembly promised this Thursday, to work with related bodies, for the financial commitment, aiming at the completion of the Home for the Elderly under construction in the urban district of Mussungue, province of Lunda-Norte.

Speaking to the press, at the end of the working visit to the province of Lunda-Norte, the coordinator of the parliamentary delegation, João Ungaji, highlighted that the project is almost complete, with finishing and equipment work remaining.

“We will work with related ministries to find financing and complete the project that will give dignity and protection to those elderly people who are not accepted within the family”, he stressed.

Work on the Home with 34 bedrooms to house 68 elderly people, a consulting room, leisure room, among other areas, whose level of physical completion is around 95 percent, has been halted since 2021, due to financial reasons.

The infrastructure under construction in the municipality of Chitato is budgeted at 488 million kwanzas, the financing of which was assured by a “Eurobond” credit line.

Parliamentarians were concerned about the rate of school dropout in rural communities in the municipalities of Cambulo, Lóvua, Lucapa and Chitato, having recommended an in-depth study into the real reasons for this phenomenon and finding solutions for children and adolescents to return to school.

Children and adolescents in this condition are mainly used for agricultural activities.

He said that the deputies were also concerned about four cases of sexual rape of minors in the municipality of Cambulo, whose perpetrators are already facing justice.

He made it known that some cases have already become final and others are awaiting judgment.

They recommended that the local government create spaces to welcome children from and on the street and in conflict with the Law, for better monitoring, as well as the completion of schools and health units under construction in Lóvua, Chitato, Cambulo and Lucapa, so that may be available to the population.
