Africa-Press – Angola. At least 26 lots are still waiting for businessmen interested in investing in the diamond cutting segment at the Saurimo Diamond Development Pole, located in Lunda Sul province, with a view to boosting the sector’s value chain.

According to the consultant to the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Mankenda Ambroise, despite having five cutting factories, this pole is still open to investors who intend to install manufacturing units within this infrastructure.

Inaugurated on August 27, 2021, the Saurimo Diamond Development Hub is divided into three main areas: commercial, industrial and the one reserved for the hybrid power plant.

Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the 2nd edition of the exhibition and parade of jewelry with embedded diamonds from Angola, held Thursday in Luanda, the then Minister of Geology and Mines (2008) recalled that the policy for marketing diamonds in force in the country, 20% of production is allowed to be sold to cutters, but this target has not yet been reached, as there are few cutting factories.

“The country is producing around nine million carats/year, most of which is exported raw. Therefore, it will be a great victory for Angola, if it has the capacity to hone 20% of its local extraction”, he highlighted.

On the occasion, the also former coordinator of the Kimberley Process also announced the opening of the Angola Diamond Exchange, with the aim of trading the country’s rough diamonds with transparency and coherence.

On the other hand, Mankenda Ambroise considered the jewelry exhibition of extreme importance, as it allows promoting the culture of using jewelry with diamonds produced in Angola.

Entitled “Valentine’s Diamond Show” (VDS), the exhibition and parade of jewelry with embedded diamonds aims to encourage Angolans to be the first to enjoy the benefits of the “precious stone” abundant in Angola, according to the director general of Bumbar Mining, Sebastião Panzo, promoter of the event.

For this official, citizens can take advantage of the benefits of diamonds in two ways: as a financial reserve (saving in the form of savings) and as an ornament (use of spices made with national diamonds).

In turn, the commercial director of Pedra Rubra (jewelry and diamond cutting factory), Helga Milagre, considered the event as a way of showing the industrial and technological capacity that the country has for the transformation of mineral resources, through raw materials locations.

With a capacity to produce up to 500 pieces/month, including necklaces, bracelets, engagement rings and wedding rings made with diamonds and national gold, the person in charge pointed out the expansion of this initiative at national and international level as one of the challenges of her company, in the next times.

Created in 2012, in Luanda, Pedra Rubra was the only jeweler that was present at the 2nd edition of the exhibition and parade of jewelery with diamonds, which served to promote its products and “grab” the attention of guests at the event.

In a night colored with diamonds and gold, participants also had the opportunity to watch a parade of mannequins, which displayed diamond-encrusted jewelry and gold-plated garments.

The Valentine’s Diamond Show, as part of Valentine’s Day, celebrated on the 14th of February, is an annual exhibition and parade of diamond jewelry aimed at couples, which celebrates Angola’s progress in exploring the value chain of the diamond industry.

Bumba Mining’s initiative aims to promote and experience in practice the benefits of Angola’s progress in the diamond industry value chain, as well as serving as a platform for samples by Angolan jewelers.
