Africa-Press – Angola. A diamond cutting factory called “Pollaro” was inaugurated this Friday, at the Saurimo Diamond Pole (Lunda Sul), by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, as part of the promotion of the institution.
With the capacity to cut five thousand carats/month, the 5th factory was built in an area of 750 square meters, with an investment of around five million and 500 thousand US dollars, for its construction and equipment acquisition.
The factory includes areas for treatment, planning, stone scanning, laser cutting, manual and automatic polishing.
On the occasion, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, said that the Pole will continue to be a priority as it is a sector that contributes the most to the national economy.
He added that he was satisfied with the opening of another one of the many factories yet to come and with the fact that the young finalists of the Training and Evaluation and Diamond Cutting Center gained employment in this organisation.
Diamantino Azevedo also indicated that the private enterprise responds to the search for employment by youth in this region.
In the same vein, the minister handed over 79 certificates to the finalists of the SODIAM Diamond Training, Assessment and Cutting Centre.
In turn, the provincial governor of Lunda Sul, Daniel Neto, underlined that the opening of the new factory will effectively provide more diamonds to be polished locally and consequently offer more jobs to the youth.
In turn, the chairman of the factory’s executive commission, Hélder David, said that it guarantees jobs for 60 young people, 30 of whom are nationals and an equal number of expatriates.
He made it known that the company will continue to make continuous improvements with investments in order to obtain better results.
As for production, Hélder David pointed out that they are prepared to increase production capacity, with the acquisition of more equipment, if the business justifies it.

Diamond Pole
The Saurimo Diamond Development Pole was inaugurated in 2021, with the capacity to host 30 diamond cutting factories, currently having five.
The project, with an investment of US$77 million in the first phase, will have four diamond cutting factories, to which will be added the four already existing in the country.
Built in an area of 305 185 74 square meters, the center is divided into three main areas, namely commercial, industrial and the one reserved for the hybrid power plant.
The commercial area is the core of public access with shops, restaurants, food court, banks, tax offices, offices, convention center, professional technical school, medical center and accommodation building.
