Africa-Press – Angola. The importance for Angola of the National Grain Production Promotion Plan “Planagrão” was made known to the President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, by the new Angolan ambassador accredited in this South American country, Azevedo Francisco.
According to a note from the Angolan Embassy in Argentina, the subject was addressed by the Angolan diplomat last Wednesday, during the presentation of letters of credentials to the President of Paraguay, in the capital Asunción, which make him official as a non-resident ambassador.
On the occasion, Ambassador Azevedo Francisco, residing in Buenos Aires, Argentina, informed the Paraguayan Head of State that Planagrão is a bet designed by the Angolan Executive, with the purpose of producing, on a large scale, rice, wheat, corn and soybeans.
Planagrão, which aims to increase the production of rice, corn, wheat, soybeans and other cereals, was created by the Angolan Executive in 2022. It is valued at 2.8 billion kwanzas, with financing from the State, through the Development Bank of Angola ( BDA) and the Fundo Activo de Capital de RiscoAngolanano (FACRA), aimed at the private sector.
The implementation of the program, mainly focused on the provinces of Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul, Moxico and Cuando Cubango, begins this year, with the purpose of increasing the production of those cereals to more than six million tons by the year 2027, compared to three million and 26,140 from 2021.
At the accreditation ceremony, Azevedo Francisco expressed Angola’s interest in receiving particular attention within the strategy outlined by the Paraguayan Government on relationship policies with countries on the African continent.
On that occasion, the strengthening of political consultations and pending instruments between both States was reviewed.
The two interlocutors promised to work towards the materialization of agreements such as visa exemptions for diplomatic and service passports, the project to export products from the agricultural industry to Angola and the proposal for an academic and technological cooperation agreement between the University of Asunción and the Agostinho Neto University.
Angola and Paraguay established political and diplomatic relations on April 21, 1995, based on the principle of mutual respect and the defense of national, regional and international sovereignty.
