Diplomat reaffirms determination of bilateral cooperation relations

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan ambassador to Portugal, Maria Ferreira, reaffirmed the will and determination of the Angolan Government to develop relationships of trust, friendship and cooperation with all countries and peoples of the world, on the basis of the principles of international law, mutual respect and sovereign equality of States.

The diplomat, who was speaking as part of the celebration of Angola’s 48th anniversary of Independence, which takes place Saturday, expressed her gratitude for the support and solidarity shown by the international community throughout this period that the country has lived as an independent nation.

“November 11, 1975 marked the birth of a new independent nation. As we mark this anniversary of National Independence, it is imperative to remember and pay the fair tribute of recognition to all those who dedicated themselves to the struggle and made immense sacrifices for the emancipation of Angola and its children”, he highlighted.

He recalled that Angola and Portugal, since the establishment of diplomatic relations on March 9, 1976, have maintained “very close” friendly and cooperative relations, following a virtuous path in defending common principles and values, namely democracy, Rule of Law, respect for international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Ambassador Maria Ferreira considered economic and business cooperation as vital bases for sustaining the privileged relations between the two countries, with Angola being the destination of more than four thousand Portuguese companies that carry out their activities in various sectors.

According to the ambassador, the Angolan Government has made efforts to attract direct private investment for the country, with a view to achieving more impetuous growth, especially in the priority areas defined by Angola, whose Portuguese companies have significant experience.

The event, which marked the celebration of Angola’s 48th anniversary of Independence, brought together representatives of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, deputies, ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, among other guests, who were treated to songs by Nelo de Carvalho, Barcelo de Carvalho “Bonga” and the musical group Jovens do Hungo, as well as tasting Angolan cuisine.
