Africa-Press – Angola. The first literary work by the archbishop emeritus of the Archdiocese of Lubango, Dom Zacarias Kamwenho, entitled “I believed, that’s why I spoke: Reviewing the Sakharov prize-2001”, was presented this Friday, in Lubango, to the Huílan community.

The 94-page book was edited and revised by Paulinas Editora and has 600 copies available in this first edition. In addition to Huíla, the work has already been launched in Luanda, at the beginning of this month and the next city is Sumbe.

The work is divided into three parts, namely the introduction, the six occasional testimonies and the conclusive, the first of which addresses the urgency of reviewing the Constitution of the Republic, the era of national liberation movements and the collaboration of everyone in public life .

In the second, the author revisits the Sakharov Prize-2001, the contribution of Christian churches in the process of Angola’s independence, peace – the task of all humans, the State of the Angolan nation, among others and in the last part reflects the which was said in the European Parliament on December 12, 2001.

When talking about the work, the author said that it represents the need to call everyone to join hands to reach a more effective reconciliation, as this was the Sakharov Prize program he received in 2001, at a time when Angola is still managing the post-election crisis.

“As a witness to an Angola that dates back to 1961, I have a lot to say. I took advantage of giving voice to old testimonies. I made my contribution so that everything is done in tranquility and peace. May there be more and more wisdom in those who govern and honesty on our part, the governed”, he highlighted.

He expressed that he would like everyone to participate in Angola and not just a few in its construction as a nation and they must engage in the task of having a truly free, democratic country, good for Angolans and their friends.

When asked about the motivations that led him to publish a book just now, after several years of priesthood, the prelate replied “there was no way to publish”, but circumstances forced him to, despite having written many articles, so he hopes to put two more on the market. works, one on the liturgy and another on memories.

Zacarias Kamwenho, 89 years old, is from Huambo and was ordained a priest in July 1961. He served as vice-rector of the Major Seminary of Christ the King, in the same province where he was born, rector of the same religious institution, also accumulating the title of vicar general of the Diocese.

He was auxiliary bishop of Luanda, took possession of the Diocese of Novo Redondo, in Sumbe. He watched the entry of the liberation movements and the clashes between the three.

In 1995 he was transferred to the Archdiocese of Lubango and received the Sakharov Prize in October 2001. He was president of the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé (CEAST) and the Inter-ecclesial Peace Committee in Angola (COIEPA).

He reached retirement age in 2009 (75 years old) and handed over the pastorate of the archdiocese to Dom Gabriel Mbilingi, current metropolitan archbishop of Lubango.
