Africa-Press – Angola. The earthworks on the road linking the municipal seat of Quela to the commune of Missão dos Bangalas, over a 53 kilometer journey, are at 39 percent physical completion and 31 percent financial, after restarting last February.

The contract, registered in the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), was paralyzed due to successive stoppages and termination of contracts. It was initially budgeted at 269 million kwanzas, but with the financial rebalancing it was set at 333 million kwanzas.

The provincial governor, Marcos Nhunga, who worked for two days in that district, visited the project and was satisfied with the work being carried out.

According to the municipal administrator of Quela, Pedro Démbue, deforestation work is currently underway and the implementation of the five planned bridges will soon begin.

The person in charge made it known that, taking into account the delay in the work and the strategic importance of the section, they will “put pressure” on the contractor to complete the work in the first half of this year.

Within the scope of the PIIM, Quela is the municipality with the most projects, 18 in total. However, only three have materialized, namely two small water systems and an acquisition of basic sanitation materials, while one is ongoing and the remaining 14 have been paralyzed since 2019.

With four communes, namely Sede, Xandel, Moma and Missão dos Bângalas, the municipality of Quela is 115 kilometers from the city of Malanje and has an estimated population of 21,314.
