Africa-Press – Angola. The East Judiciary Region has no excess of cases of pre-trial detention in the penitentiary services due to the effective and proactive action of the Public Prosecution Service magistrates, assured yesterday the district coordinator, sub-prosecutor Astrigilda Pedro Culolo.
Speaking to the press, at the closing ceremony of the “Legality Week”, which celebrates the 44th anniversary of the founding of the PGR, he said that the lack of cases of excess pre-trial detention, desirable scenarios in criminal practice, is due to constant monitoring of cases by public prosecutors.
With regard to cases of corruption in the region, he said that they are below 10 percent of the total number of cases instructed by the PGR, due to the reduced culture of complaints.
“Unfortunately, people tend to hide the facts, so there is every need to promote work, to improve the culture of denouncement”, he lamented.
He also reiterated the difficulties that the institution faces in financial terms, human resources, marked by the lack of magistrates and technicians, a situation that has caused constraints in the criminal exercise.
On his turn, Deodato Paím, Deodato Paím, the deputy attorney general of the Republic, when addressing “the role of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the defense of Administrative Integrity”, discouraged excessive bureaucracy in Public Administration, considering that this measure has contributed to combating the phenomenon of corruption in the country.
The magistrate also pointed out the easy access of managers to public resources, the low salary as some elements that contribute to the practice of crime, appealing to the population to develop positive actions for the stabilization of the country.
The Legality Week, which took place from the 24th to the 28th of the current month, under the motto “The Public Ministry in defense of the public interest and the fundamental rights of citizens in administrative justice”, was marked by lectures, visits to military and prison units , in addition to solidarity activities.
The Attorney General’s Office, founded on the 27th of April 1979, is a State body with the function of representing the State, in carrying out criminal proceedings, defending the rights of other natural and legal persons, in addition to supervising the legality.
