Africa-Press – Angola. MPLA member João Diogo Gaspar was elected, this Saturday, in Ndalatando, first provincial secretary of the party in Cuanza-Norte.
The election took place during an extraordinary conference, with the new leader winning 418 votes, among the 437 delegates present, corresponding to 97% of valid votes.
João Gaspar replaces Pedro Makita, who has held the position in the province since October 2022.
In his speech, the new person in charge considered the challenges to be faced as enormous and asked for everyone’s commitment.
“I am convinced that, with unity and cohesion, we will do a great job to continue to be victorious”, he said, calling for the practice of positive acts, in order to increasingly improve the party’s work in the region.
João Diogo Gaspar is also governor of the province of Cuanza Norte, appointed in January this year by the President of the Republic.
The act was witnessed by the coordinator of the party’s monitoring group for Cuanza-Norte, Maria Baptista, who recommended greater organization at the level of municipal and communal committees.
On the occasion, messages from OMA and JMPLA were read expressing support for the new first secretary and the party president.
