Africa-Press – Angola. The Embassy of Angola in the Arab Republic of Egypt was distinguished with the “Award of Excellence in Engineering Exports from Egypt”, for the support given to the Egyptian Business Mission that traveled to Luanda in June last year.
In a ceremony held at the Abdeen Palace (formerly the Palace of King Farouk), in the city of Cairo, on Saturday, the Angolan ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Nelson Cosme, received from the president of the Export Council of Egypt, a body attached to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Sherif El Sayyd, a diploma of merit and thanks for the “extraordinary support” to the first Egypt-Angola Trade Mission, June 2022.
It should be noted that a delegation of Egyptian businessmen and investors visited the country from 20 to 25 June 2022, where it assessed investment opportunities, mainly in the areas of industries and equipment and transport.
The business initiative followed the Angola-Egypt investment round table, held in March of the same year, during the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, which resulted in the production of a report on engineering exports from Egypt to the country.
In Luanda, a business forum was held, during which the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, stated that, in cooperation with Egypt, Angola “intends to take advantage of the strong potential of industrial engineering, for household appliances, automotive components and electrical industries”.
The average annual value of exports by the Egyptian machinery and equipment industry was around US$6.15 billion from 2016 to 2019, with Angola representing 0.01 percent of total exports in 2021 alone.
