According to the head of provincial services at the National Institute for Consumer Protection, José Xavier, successive power cuts and Texas charges for reconnecting homes to the electricity system are the main complaints from consumers in this region.
In 2023, this institution registered 96 acts, including infractions and advice, with ENDE standing out as the institution with the highest number of complaints, followed by Caminho de Ferro de Benguela (CFB) with complaints about poor passenger service and lack of hygiene of passengers. trains.
In this regard, he said there is also a growing trend in complaints about services provided in the education sector, with particular emphasis on complaints coming from students at the Instituto Superior Politécnico Privado do Luena, due to the alleged illicit collection of bribes.
On the other hand, he denounced the existence of many institutions that refuse to host lectures on consumer rights, with a view to raising the level of awareness among citizens.
This Friday (15 March) is International Consumer Rights Day, an event designed to raise awareness among people as consumers about their rights and needs.
The anniversary was inspired by the speech of the 35th President of the United States, the first world leader to address the issue of consumer rights, having defined four fundamental rights: the right to security, the right to be informed, the right to choose and the right to be heard, realities that tend to be observed where the market and consumerism go hand in hand.
