Africa-Press – Angola. The general director of the Italian multinational, ENI, Guido Brusco, announced Wednesday, in Luanda, investments worth one billion dollars for the development of non-associated gas in Angola.
Non-associated gas is that which is free from oil and water in the reservoir and its concentration is predominant in the rock layer.
According to the director of Italian energy, who spoke at the 4th edition of the International Conference and Exhibition Angola “Oil and Gas 2023 (A0G2023), the New Gas Consortium (NGC) project, which involves ENI and Azule Energie, encompasses two offshore well platforms, an onshore gas processing plant and the connection to Angola liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The plan, he continued, consists of reaching a production of around 350 million cubic feet per day, which is equivalent to approximately four billion cubic meters per year.
Progress in construction activities, according to the official, is impressive, already at 15%, almost twice as fast as planned.
Next October, the company will celebrate the laying of the first stone of the main buildings that will house the operations team of the New Gas Consortium in Soyo – another fundamental step to ensure that promises are fulfilled.
Based on the progress already achieved, Guido Brusco confirms that the first gas flow can already be registered, in July 2026, in addition to announcing the acceleration of the first gas process.
To continue with the execution of this project at an accelerated pace, he said that the support of the authorities to finalize the fiscal framework package and the support of its partners is essential.
In this regard, he recognized the effective collaboration with all government entities involved and the leadership provided by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum and the Ministry of Finance of Angola.
“The New Gas Consorcio project is not just an ambitious project, it is a testimony to the dedication and determination of Azule Energy, and ENI before it, in the development of gas in Angola”, he considered.
Furthermore, ENI says it is already looking to the future, with the first gas exploration well planned in Angola, for next year, in block 1/14, which will allow the unlocking of gas in the country.
Other projects in portfolio
In his view, the development of Angolan gas will be a catalyst for other opportunities and will support the development of the petrochemical industry and, in particular, fertilizer production.
“The fertilizers will feed the Angolan agricultural sector, including bio raw material to produce decarbonized fuel, a sector in which ENI is working tirelessly to make it a reality in Angola”, he said.
For the director of ENI, gas is in fact the ideal fuel for the country’s long-term energy transition, in addition to being a cleaner, more reliable and affordable source of energy for Angola and the world.
“We are already preparing the planting campaigns that will begin in the coming months and we have already identified the area for the construction of the country’s first agro-industrial complex”, he announced.
He explained that this factory will have a capacity of 30 thousand tons per year and the production of the first vegetable oil, which is scheduled for 2024.
He also informed that studies are continuing between Azule and Sonangol for the implementation of a bio-refinery in the current Luanda refining complex.
Within the scope of social responsibility, ENI is already thinking about implementing a clean stove distribution program, where around 200 thousand stoves will be distributed over the next five years, supporting 150 thousand households involved in five provinces of the country.
He added that the majority of these stoves will be produced and assembled in the country, a project that is expected to have a significant positive impact on the local population in terms of employment, health and reduced emissions.
The 4th Edition of the International Conference and Exhibition, Angola Oil& Gas 2023 (AOG2023) takes place under the motto “Energy Security, Decarbonization and Sustainable Development”.
Taking place from the 13th to the 14th of this month, the Conference takes place at a time when Angola maintains production levels of around 1.1 million barrels of oil per day (BOPD).
