Africa-Press – Angola. The Luanda Public Water Company (EPAL) will subcontract 15 agencies to collect water tariffs in the municipalities of the Angolan capital, starting in the first half of April, with a view to increasing revenue collection, the president announced of the Board of Directors of this institution, Adão da Silva.
In an interview, regarding World Water Day, which takes place Friday (22 March), the manager said that he had already identified the agents who will provide the service to customers, whose debt is around 10.4 billion of kwanzas.
Adão da Silva pointed out the search for revenue, in places where EPAL is unable to reach, as one of the first advantages of hiring the aforementioned agencies.
According to the PCA, this process is already at an end, with the aim of allocating agents in the municipalities and neighborhoods of Luanda, where they will carry out billing and network maintenance activities, an action that is part of the outsourcing of services.
“Due to the fact that customer debt is very high, it will not be in one day or month that we will be able to recover the due amount, but at least the intention is to reach where the debtors are”, he reinforced.
World Water Day, celebrated on March 22, was suggested at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, and was celebrated for the first time in 1993.
The purpose of the event is to promote awareness about the relevance of water for human survival and other living beings.
Furthermore, the date is a time to remember the importance of sustainable use of this resource and the urgent need to conserve aquatic environments.
