Africa-Press – Angola. The European Union (EU) will launch, tomorrow, Wednesday, in Luanda, four civil society projects to promote youth leadership and entrepreneurship, an initiative budgeted at 4.89 million euros. The project aims to strengthen the role of young people as agents of change in their communities.
The activities will take place in the provinces of Benguela, Cunene, Huambo, Huíla, Icolo e Bengo, Luanda, Malanje, Moxico, Namibe and Zaire, and will seek to offer concrete opportunities for the development of skills, social inclusion and civic participation.
Speaking to Jornal de Angola, the Press and Information Officer of the Delegation of the European Union, Pablo Mazarrasa Rodríguez, explained that the initiative represents the continuation of a commitment that began several years ago.
“Every year there is a public call for proposals. This year the focus is on young people, but in previous years other vulnerable groups have been supported, such as children, the elderly and projects linked to freedom of expression,” he explained.

The first of the projects is led by MOSAIKO, the Institute for Citizenship, in partnership with Leigos para o Desenvolvimento, under the title “Young People Today, Leaders Now!”. With a budget of 1.2 million euros and an expected duration of 48 months, the action takes place in the provinces of Benguela, Icolo e Bengo, Luanda and Malanje. Around 10 percent of the funding comes from the Instituto Camões.The second initiative focuses on youth participation, advocacy and support for young people in situations of social vulnerability, with funding of 1,156,538 euros. The project will last 36 months and will be developed in the provinces of Benguela, Luanda, Moxico and Zaire.
