Ex-governor praises proposal for new administration division

Africa-Press – Angola. The former administrator of the commune of Aldeia Nova (municipality of Banga), Venâncio Adolfo Sango, praised the Proposed Law for the New Administrative Political Division of the country.

The bill, already in possession of the National Assembly, provides, in essence, for the increase in the number of provinces from 18 to 20. It proposes the division of Moxico and Cuando Cubango into two provinces each and the increase from 164 to 581 municipalities in Angola, elevating communes and urban districts to this category.

Venâncio Sango believes that with this administrative reform, the Executive is thinking about the future of the country, due to the fact that currently the country’s communes lack development.

The former communal administrator hopes that with the new administrative political division, the government will create the necessary conditions with the construction of social infrastructures to satisfy the needs of the population.

In addition to its own budget, he pointed out as advantages of the bill the creation of new jobs and sources of funding, stating that these factors will contribute to local development.

Francisco Xavier, peasant in the Tango commune, in the municipality of Ambaca, hopes that the new administrative political division will bring balance to the country’s development, reducing asymmetries and rural exodus.

The great chief of Luínga commune, Tito Kipopo, defended better inclusion of villagers in the delimitation of new territories, to avoid land conflicts in the future, having praised the strategic vision of the Executive that aims to develop communities.

At the time of the public presentation of the project, in the province of Cuanza Norte, the members of the Community Consultation Council defended the maintenance of the names of some localities in order to preserve the history of the regions.

According to the members of that government consultation body, the proposal to change the names of many localities could pinch or compromise some important elements of the history of each community and the country and confuse future generations.

On a visit to the province of Cuanza Norte, the Minister of Territory Administration, Dionísio da Fonseca, said that the implementation of the country’s new political-administrative division poses challenges to governance, embodied in the creation of conditions for the effective provision of services to the population.

The official explained that the project for the new administrative political division of Angola is focused on improving the quality and bringing basic social services closer to citizens.

“Once implemented, citizens will no longer have to travel long distances to satisfy their needs”, he said at the time.

He assured that the Executive is working to mobilize financial resources to bring together and ensure education, health, justice and other services to citizens.

Dionísio da Fonseca said he understood society’s skepticism regarding the proposal, advising citizens to think about a long-term project, rather than the immediate one.
