Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Territorial Administration, Dionísio Manuel da Fonseca, reaffirmed that the executive has invested in female empowerment with 729,355 women benefiting from the Kwenda program, with the aim of contributing to the increase in family agricultural production.

According to the minister, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the 1st National Workshop “Woman Leader in Local Governance”, data from the last agricultural campaign indicate that family farming was responsible for 91.3% of the sown area (6,041,025 hectares ) and 82.2% of total harvested production (5,409,867 tons), representing growth of more than 6.6 percent in all rows.

He explained that 1,513,486 Households are registered in the Kwenda program, of which 1,062,467 (equivalent to 70.18%) are women, and of these 729,355 have already received monetary social transfers.

He mentioned that with the 1st National Workshop “Woman Leader in Local Governance” the aim is to reinforce the commitment of the Angolan Executive in creating policies aimed at promoting gender equality, greater insertion of women in prominent positions, thus implementing the principle of equality between men and women, set out in articles 21 and 23 of the Constitution of the Republic.

“And because life takes place in municipalities, striving to have more women holding positions of responsibility at local level with merit allows us to contribute to achieving global and African goals, in terms of gender equality”, he said.

According to the official, “We will be contributing to the construction of an Angola in which all citizens actively participate in the decision-making process in all aspects. An inclusive Angola where no child, woman or man will be left behind or excluded”.

She added that having more women in decision-making positions at local level reflects reconciliation with our history and is a fair tribute to all the heroines who have long dedicated themselves to defending the Homeland and promoting its development. In turn, the vice-governor of Luanda for the Political and Social Sector, Manuel António Gonçalves, considered that local governance plays an important role in the daily life of communities, as it addresses issues that directly affect people with the responsibilities of representing your interests.

He considered that a female leader in local governance can inspire other women and young people to get involved in politics and promote more inclusive governance that is sensitive to everyone’s needs.

The event featured a range of national and international speakers who spoke in three panels on the themes “Gender-Sensitive Budgeting as a Local Development Instrument – National and International Perspective”, “Experience and Experience of Local Governance under Women’s Leadership and Practical Experiences of Local Governance led by Women”.

This aimed to reinforce the Angolan executive’s commitment to creating policies aimed at promoting gender equality, greater inclusion of women, especially in prominent positions, increasing the consecration of the principle of equality between men and women.

Participating in the 1st National Workshop “Woman Leader in Local Governance”, the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, who gave the inaugural lecture on the theme “Women in Economic and Social Development”, women from all social strata from the 18 provinces of the country and foreigners.
